The Spindle

The tower that holds everything up: the ground below, Whitecrest on top. Its official name is "Lift Column No. 1 (self-servicing)". "Self-servicing" means it is serviced by people like Bo.

Outside

Patched stone, pipes, balconies, vent grilles, washing lines, signs and rust, a great deal of rust. From a balcony you see nothing below but clouds. That is reassuring until you start falling.

Inside

Inside the tower are the floors, each with its own residents and its own rules, and a snow-white passenger lift for those who have a ticket. Bo does not have a ticket. Bo fixes the lift.

Vents

The facade is full of vent intakes. You can get in; you cannot get back out: the draught only goes in and down. For a falling mechanic it is the only way onto a floor without waiting for the ground.

In Return to Sender the vents are also the tower's old pneumatic-mail pipes, which is why letters fall down them along with Bo.

The service town at sunset: chimneys, smoke, lights
The lower you go, the warmer, smokier and livelier it gets.

This wiki describes the world of the VENTFALL series. Return to Sender is a quick demo and does some things its own way; where it differs, the article says "in Return to Sender".
